Lancaster County EMS provides pre-hospital emergency care for approximately 100,000 residents. Our county covers 550 square miles – located just south of Charlotte/Mecklenburg County NC. LCEMS provides Advanced Life Support care 24/7 to the citizens and visitors in our country with 9 Paramedic Units and 2 Quick Response Units. Aggressive treatments for heart attacks, strokes, Rapid Sequence Intubation, Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) and many other lifesaving techniques are administered to ensure excellent patient care.
Lancaster County EMS was founded in 1971 as one of the first non-funeral home EMS Systems in South Carolina after hosting the first EMT class in South Carolina in 1971. Lancaster County EMS had one of the first AED programs in South Carolina, which started in 1985 and in 1997 Lancaster County EMS had the first pre-hospital RSI program in SC, NC or Georgia.
Lancaster County EMS has won many state and regional awards, including Large System of the Year, Paramedic, Advanced, Intermediate, EMT of the Year, and Director of the Year. Our Paramedic Teams have been in the SC Paramedic competition finals 10 times. Our Paramedic Teams have also traveled to compete in National Events, competing against the biggest services in the nation.
Lancaster County EMS responds to over 18,000 calls for service each year. We provide EMS coverage at high school football games, public events and church functions utilizing our Bike Team, STAR Team and part time staff.
